MILANI’S MOVING STORY HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURE AND A MORE HUMAN SCHOOL SYSTEM.
Nearly thirty years after Daniele Luchetti’s ‘La Scuola – The School’ in which Milani was the assistant director, and the subsequent highly acclaimed ‘Auguri professor – All the best, Professor!’ with Silvio Orlando, Milani returns to the subject with a funny and emotional comedy starring his favorite actor, Antonio Albanese. Albanese plays the teacher Cortese, who, tired of the disastrous conditions at the Roman school where he has taught for thirty years, applies to be transferred to a remote village in the mountains of Abruzzo. The teacher’s bucolic and eco-friendly fantasies clash with the harsh reality of mountain life. Additionally, he finds himself fighting alongside the vice-principal (a splendid performance of Virginia Raffaele) to defend the small school where he has been sent, as the principal wants to close it and merge the few remaining students into a neighboring town’s institute.
Like in some of his previous films, Milani once again portrays two opposing worlds and two different ways of seeing life and society. These two distant universes find a point of union in defending universal values such as culture and education to respect others. The film won the 2024 Nastro d’Argento for Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actress (Virginia Raffaele). It also broke all 2024 box office records in Italy.
Cineville tickets will be available from October 15th.
