Celebrate Queer & Pride with two amazing films! With 25 min. aftertalk
Uýra, a transgender indigenous artist, travels through the Amazon forest on a journey of self-discovery. Using the art of performance and ancestral messages, Uýra teaches indigenous youth to confront structural racism and transphobia in Brazil.
Uýra – The Rising Forest is an artistically magical film on urgent topics that connect humanity to nature itself. The film portrays community formation among indigenous transgender and nonbinary people who are in touch with nature and understand what climate justice stands for: opposing racism, fighting transphobia, protecting our ecosystem, and much more. The film won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at this year’s Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival.
This film is presented by Humans of Film Festival and LGBTQ Humans of Amsterdam during Queer & Pride 2024 and is selected by Alejandra Ortiz. After the film Ortiz will moderate the panel discussion Why chosen families matters with Misha Adrian (trans activist from Lebanon living in Amsterdam) and Regijn Ducky (trans woman from Suriname).
Before the film there is a performance by Agnes, between 18:30 and 19:00. We show the other Queer & Pride-movie Ortiz selected, Caer/Caught at 17:00. Tickets here.
