L’Ultima Notte di Amore – Italian cineclub

Franco Amore, with a capital A, is a policeman, works in Milan, and has made it to the end of his career without practically firing a single shot. But of course, in film noir, things never go how we want them to, and unexpected events constantly change plans. Di Stefano, who studied in America, knows his craft and wraps up a hard-boiled noir set in a livid, dark Milan. His look at the characters describes but does not judge, and the criminal undergrowth of this New York-like Milan is perfectly believable and authentic. The action scenes are particularly successful and give the film a fast-paced rhythm that we rarely see in Italian productions. The film was selected for the Berlinale Special Gala at the Berlin Film Festival 2023 and received five nominations (including Best Director) for the Nastri d’Argento 2023.
