After spending years in Belgium, a young Congolese man returns to his birthplace of Kinshasa to confront the intricacies of his family and culture.
After living in Belgium for eighteen years Koffi returns to Congo, to introduce his pregnant wife to his family. The reunion turns out not to be a happy one – the community still thinks the birthmark on his face is a sign of the devil, and his mother doesn’t like his white skinned bride.
Augure is a tense drama about identity, displacement and longing for acceptance, against the backdrop of magic-realistic Congo. This poignant and visual stunning debut is made by multi talented Congolese Belgian Baloji. He wrote the script, directed the movie, designed the costumes and made four albums, based on the main characters of the movie. Augure won the New Voice Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and won several other international prizes.
